The BSR Academy

The Body Stress Release Academy is located at Rondevlei, a small village on the scenic lakes drive of the Garden Route. This area lies on the southern coast of the Western Cape Province of South Africa.

Rondevlei is 6km from a major highway, the N2. The largest towns nearby are Knysna and George. George airport is a 45 minute drive from the Academy. The Academy premises is a double-storey house situated on a hill overlooking a lake. It has two classrooms and a library of 1000 books. Leisure activities in the area include hiking, bird-watching and water sports on the sea, lakes and lagoons. Reasonably priced accommodation is available in holiday cottages and guest suites. The Academy faculty are the developers of Body Stress Release : Dr Ewald Meggersee B.Sc. (SA) D.C. (USA) and Dr Gail Meggersee B.A. U.E.D. (SA) D.C. (USA) and has a Board of Trustees which controls the future development of BSR.

Becoming a BSR Practitioner

In South Africa the BSR Association is a member of COCHASA, the Confederation of Complementary Health Associations of South Africa. The Association oversees the practice of BSR, provides continuing education workshops and holds a three day annual conference.

The curriculum covers anatomy, principles and philosophy of BSR, the BSR technique, theory and practical, communication, client management and the BSR Association constitution. The class size is limited as a great deal of one-to-one teaching is provided. Prospective students are required to be over 25 years of age, with a matriculation certificate (Grade 12) or equivalent (A levels in UK). As the BSR practitioner deals with people from all walks of life, in varying states of health, both physical and emotional, the applicant should be a person who has the confidence and empathy to relate effectively to people in general. BSR is a career which brings a high level of satisfaction as it enhances the well-being of others, and provides the practitioner with independence and a good income.

Professional Complementary Health Organisation

A newsletter is produced three times a year and provides a forum for practitioners, both locally and internationally to exchange information and ideas. The Association controls the mode of practice of practitioners and is governed by its constitution, a legal document by which all practitioners are bound. This ensures that a professional level of practice is maintained and provides a code of ethics and disciplinary powers.

In the U.K. the Association is a member of the British Complementary Medicine Association, and is recognised by the Guild of Complementary Practitioners. At present BSR is practised in South Africa, Namibia, United Kingdom, Ireland, Holland, Belgium, Germany, Greece, Iceland, New Zealand, Australia, Japan, Curacao, Canada and the U.S.A. The Executive Committee of the International Association oversees the various national associations.
